McHale Wins SubJunior Open Trophies Event at the

South Carolina State Trap Shoot

Alex McHale, a new resident of Mt. Pleasant, set his sights on participating in the South Carolina State Trap Shoot held May 16 – May 22, 2007 at the Spartanburg Gun Club in Spartanburg, South Carolina.  Since he has to be a state resident for six months prior to the event, Alex registered as an out of state shooter.  Alex, who is 14 years old, won the SubJunior Open Trophies event shooting 182 out of 200 targets.  Alex also shot a 90 out of 100 on Sunday in handicap to place 3rd overall at the 19 yard line.

Alex attributes his shooting to his family’s support and the Scholastic Clay Target Program.  When he lived in Florida he participated in their program at the Silver Dollar Gun Club in Odessa.  Now that he resides in Mt. Pleasant he has joined the LowCountry Young Guns, a scholastic clay target youth team located at the Partridge Creek Gun Club in Ridgeville.

The Scholastic Clay Target Program provides school-age participants in grades 12 and under with the opportunity to showcase their competitive shooting skills and earn state and national recognition. The program is designed to instill in participants safe firearms handling, commitment, responsibility, leadership and teamwork.

The Scholastic Clay Target Program is a cooperative effort between the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF), the firearms industry's largest and most diverse trade association with 2,200 members, and the governing bodies for trapshooting, skeet shooting and sporting clays shooting - the Amateur Trapshooting Association (ATA), the National Skeet Shooting Association (NSSA) and the National Sporting Clays Association (NSCA), respectively.

For more information about the local SCTP, contact Mike Fields at 200-4109 or see the LowCountry Young Guns website at www.lowcountryyoungguns.com .
